Occupational Therapist (OT) for school children focuses on helping students
develop the skills necessary for daily activities in the school environment.
This role involves working with children who may have physical, sensory, or
cognitive challenges that affect their ability to learn and participate fully
in school activities. Key Responsibilities ·
Assessment: Conduct comprehensive
evaluations to assess students' fine motor skills, sensory processing,
self-care abilities, and overall functional performance within the school
setting. ·
Individualized Treatment Plans: Develop
and implement personalized treatment plans tailored to each child's specific
needs, academic goals, and developmental milestones. ·
Therapeutic Interventions: Provide
direct therapy services, including activities to enhance motor skills, sensory
integration, and daily living skills, using engaging and age-appropriate
methods. ·
Collaboration: Work collaboratively with
teachers, special education staff, parents, and other healthcare professionals
to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Education
and Training: Educate students, staff, and parents on adaptive strategies and
tools that promote independence and participation in classroom activities. ·
Monitoring Progress: Regularly assess
and document student progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary to ensure
effective outcomes. ·
Advocacy: Advocate for the needs of
students with disabilities, promoting awareness and understanding among school
staff and peers. ·
Participation in IEPs: Contribute to the
development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students requiring
special education services. Skills and qualifications ·
Master’s degree or higher in
Occupational Therapy from an accredited program. ·
Valid state license to practice as an
occupational therapist. ·
Certification from the National Board
for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) is preferred. Other skills. ·
Strong communication and interpersonal
skills to effectively engage with children, parents, and school staff. ·
Creativity and adaptability in
developing engaging therapy activities for diverse learners. ·
Ability to work collaboratively as part
of a multidisciplinary team. ·
Knowledge of childhood development,
special education practices, and sensory integration techniques. ·
Very good knowledge of MS Office suite. Language skills ·
